What We Talked About
During the interview, we explored how my work goes far beyond just vocal warm-ups or technique drills. For me, teaching voice is about transformation. Itโs about:
- Building confidence in each student, no matter where theyโre starting from
- Empowering authentic expression while mastering healthy, effective technique
- Guiding singers to transform their voice into a powerful, expressive instrument that reflects who they are.
- ย
Whether someone is singing for the first time or picking it back up after years away, I love creating a space where they feel safe, seen, and supported.
We also talked about some of the incredible students Iโve had the privilege to coach โ people from all walks of life who started out unsure of their voice, and now sing (and speak!) with clarity, confidence, and joy.
Celebrating Student Growth On Stage
I shared a recent milestone that Iโm especially proud of โ hosting a student concert here in Melbourne.
For many of my students, it was their first time performing live. But it wasnโt just about singing the right notes โ it was about finding the courage to show up, take the mic, and share their voice with confidence in front of their families and friends.
Seeing nerves turn into smiles, and fear give way to freedom โ thatโs the kind of transformation that stays with you long after the final bow.
A Standout Story: One Studentโs Journey
One highlight of the interview was featuring the story of one of my Filipino-Australian students โ a young, aspiring artist who came to me with a beautiful voice, but wanted to strengthen her belt range and unlock those high notes with more ease.
When we started, she was holding back in her upper register. But with commitment, technique, and practice, sheโs now singing with power, control, and emotion โ and sheโs becoming a confident performer in her own right.
We even got to sing together on air during the segment โ a full-circle moment that reminded me why I do this work.
Why This Interview Mattered
Being invited onto SBS Filipino was a huge honour. It gave me time to reflect on just how powerful the human voice can be โ not just in performance, but in everyday life.
Whether itโs singing, speaking, presenting, or simply expressing who you are โ your voice is your power. And supporting others to unlock that is what fuels everything I do.
As the late Jo Estill once said: โYour voice is beautiful โ you just donโt know how to use it yet.โ
Letโs Keep Singing
To everyone who tuned in, reached out, or sent kind messages โ thank you. Iโm so grateful for your support and excited for whatโs still to come.
And if youโve been thinking about singing, but wondering if itโs โtoo lateโ or โnot for youโ โ itโs not.
You havenโt missed the boat. Thereโs still so much music ahead.
